Gary Randall
Gary studied at the Birmingham School of Architecture where he gained an Honours Degree before moving to Canterbury School of Art for the Post Graduate Diploma in Architecture.
In 1988 he joined T&AM, a small practice in Richmond. Projects included a 4 storey new-build office building, master planning a mixed use leisure/housing complex in Mallorca and a period in Jamaica running the onsite drawing office for a Sandals hotel refurbishment.
During the recession in the early 90’s Gary found gainful employment at The Bedford Estate, the Duke of Bedford’s London estate in Bloomsbury. His role initially was to establish a drawing office within the existing organisation of Building and Management surveyors and then, alongside the Estates’ chief Building Surveyor, to program and manage the maintenance and refurbishment of the many Grade I and Grade II listed buildings on the Estate. It was at the Estate that Gary found an empathy with existing buildings and honed his skills in maximising the potential of a building.
In March 2000 Gary moved back into private practice working for a small practice in Mayfair, which specialised in high quality residential refurbishment and interiors. Here he was allowed a great deal of autonomy – meeting with clients, procuring projects, undertaking design/detail drawing work and onsite supervision. This allowed him to continue his work with listed buildings and to develop relationships with new and existing clients.
In 2003 the idea of creating a practice concentrating solely on high quality residential property in the Mayfair/Belgravia/Chelsea area was formed and realised at the end of 2003 with the formation of GRA architecture & interiors.
